| To Whom It May Concern: On Friday of last week, May 18th, 2007, several students were reprimanded, and eventually suspended for expressing, non-verbally, their views on the rights of homosexuals in this country. This behavior is well within their, and every American citizen’s constitutional rights, as stated in the 1st, 9th, and 14th amendments, as well as a prime example of the Smyrna School District Core Values. It was wrong for the SHS Administration to take action against these students, and it would be highly appropriate for said action to be immediately rescinded. It is understandable that the administration would seek the maximum penalty for the negative behavior exhibited by several of the students, however this behavior is not indicative of the intentions of the group at large. The aforementioned students’ negative behavior should be punished, but only for their negative behavior in response to administrative intervention, not for their cause alone. ~Thank You | | |
